Videos
The following videos were created using Matlab as part of this project. Basic details are provided below, but further information can be found in Chapter 4 of the report.
Road incidents in the UK
The positions of traffic accidents and obstructions in the UK over a period of four days in January. Samples taken at 10-minute intervals. Data was collected from backstage.bbc.co.uk and the map made in Matlab. The red bar on the right of the map indicates the relative frequency of accidents at that time.
Density map of road incidents in the UK
The density of traffic accidents and obstructions in the UK over a period of four days in January. Samples taken at 10-minute intervals. Data was collected from backstage.bbc.co.uk and the map made in MATLAB. It is possible to see a significant increase in accident density during rush hour periods (as indicated by the time display in the top-right of the screen).
Temperatures in the UK, 15th Feb - 15th Mar 2007
This map shows the minimum forecast temperature in the UK mapped for every 6 hours between 15th Feb 2007 and 15th Mar 2007. The continuous colour map is extrapolated from 30 fixed measurements points at each of the major cities. Data collected from BBC Weather RSS feeds.
